I will try to keep up my blog but don't know where I'll find the time. I do appreciate being exposed to many of the 23 things. It is almost more overwhelming now than ever. Maybe at the end of each workday I give myself a few minutes to enter an idea, thought or suggestion. If nothing else it would be a goot diary of one aspect of my life.
I am pround of myself for geting through this and even finding some of the things fun and useful.
I've got accounts in Flickr, YouTube, Facebooks, Gcast that i will for sure keep using. I can committ to doing that.

Well, my question is how many social sites does one need. How many do I need, I guess. I do like Facebook but didn't get the 23 things Ning at all. Wasn't very easy to use. Did leave a message and did upload a photo except that I had to add extra downloads to my computer
Read the articles and while it all sounds interesting, once again, when you work for a county library system and cannot DO any of these things with our weboage it is a bit frustrating.\I liked Fuzzster but it seemed silly. 43 Things was a bit self-indulgent. What's on My Bookshelf looked complicated. An interesting barter system but why not just use the library!.
All in all I will probably continue to use my Facebook page and keep that up to date. Maybe.

Wow, I'm on Facebook. Never imagined it. Thanks to 23 things for getting me started. I invited some friends to join and while I was still in my account one actually did.
I joined the ALA group.
Also looked for relatives since I have something of an unusual last name. We'll see if I connect with any long lost relatives.
We actually have a DCL MySpace page but no one ever has the time to keep it up to date so now it's pretty lame-o. Love Denver's. And, of course, Hennepin's is always better than any of the rest of us here in the Twin Cities.
Cool thing. Two thumbs up.

I also tried the MN Public Radio Podcast on Animal Language that I missed earlier this week.
Podcast Alley - interesting - more stuff to waste my time. This looks pretty easy to do, but can't at the moment think how/when I would use it. It's good to know about tho. It was good because it had a way to search by subject. Yahoo didn't, at least that I could see. Strange.

I really will have to think about how I can use this myself. It's so fun and easy!!

Well, I "created" a webpage using EBSCO page composer. It was not clear to me at all how it actually becomes a webpage. I was able to add text, photos, search box, articles, etc. and could download to my computer, but what exactly makes this a web page.
I could see where this would be useful in an assignment or a specific subject area, IF it could actually be seen as a webpage on the INternet.
I also investigated NetLibrary. I have an account but have not used this resource much. This helped to understand some of the features. I love the Notes. ALthough I would not use this much I will definitley recommend it to library customers.

This was very interesting and I can see where it would be a great help to serious college students. I no longer work a reference desk on a regular basis, but the high school kids I have dealth with are in way too much of a hurry to go through all the material on the RPC. The U of MN Assignment Calendar would be a much better choice for them.
I think iw would also be great to be able to adapt it so that our program librarians would have a sense of the steps that need to be taken for successful programs.

Games : while I appreciate this opportunity to learn more about gaming in libraries, I'll never get it. When I was a teen I had pinball, Pong, and Donkey Kong. And while I really enjoyed playing these, they did not define me like online games define many teens today. I can't even imagine, as a teen, sitting in my dark basement for hours and hours with a headset on "connecting" with my friends as my nephews do. Needless to say they are overweight, socially (in real time) inept, and slugs.
I find Second Life to be interesting but wasn't sure what the point of the Second Life video tour was. My reaction is "So what?" But i do see the appeal that this would have on the CMPL teen webpage. Unfortunately our library system is light years ( billions of lightyears, probably trillions) away from every having the expertise, pemissions, or interest to every do this.

Linrary Thing good. Wish I had this amny years ago to keep track of all the books I've read. Maybe I'll try to add a few titles every day. It would be interesting to see how many I could remember.
This would be very helpful in the library- when you're doing reader's advisory stuff you could keep lists and share with customers. Pretty cool. Sure beats actually talking to people.
I even managed to add the widget with zero frustration.

This was an interesting subject. My Yahoo is my home email and I've never really explored any of it's other features. I like the calendar and will probably use it from now on. Am not sure who I would share it with but it's nice to know that I could if I wanted to.
I thought that the PDF Converter and Zamzar would be very useful in my library environment. I can't try the PDF converter now because the files I want to try converting on on my library shared drive, but I'll give it a shot when I get to work.
Also really liked the Lifehacker. I've put that on my favorites list to check for new information. Very useful. Musch better than the "popular" news of the social media sites in the last thing.

Hummm, I'm not liking these. I don't think that I want to rely on all the Internetites out there to decide what is "popular" news. Digg: You won’t find editors at [Digg]… provide[s] a place where people can collectively determine the value of content and we’re changing the way people consume information online.”
One could just as well say about libraries, "You won't find librarians at the library.. but people can collectively determine the value of books and content and can change the way people consume information." Wow, we'd have buildings full of Danielle Steele and James Patterson.
Although I don't always trust the news, I figure that editors, journalists, etc. are the experts. And what about this from Digg: If your submission rocks and receives enough Diggs, it is promoted to the front page for the millions of our visitors to see. So this is some weird competition to see who can find the most obscure news feature?

Well, I managed to do the tagging in my blog. And I went to delicious and did the work in THing 11. I guess if you spend most of your time on the Internet (instead of having a real life, I guess) this would be useful.
I do see the potential for a library using this. We have Quicklinks for often used or useful websites and tagging these to help with reference would be beneficial.

I found the wikis very interesting especially the Albany Public Library Staff wiki. This would be so great to have for us instead of our Insider page. We have one-two people only posting things. With our county restrictions I don't know if they would allow "just any staff" to post information to a wiki. It would be so much more helpful. Will try to nag someone about doing this.

I wasn't so enamored of the Minniwiki. Perhaps it's still just in the development stage, but there wasn't a lot of information to be had.

I did go into the 23 Things WIKI and although I did not actually alter or add anything I did investigate it enough to get a good idea of how to use it. it seems really easy.

I'm still cranky about THing 8. I worked really hard on a slideshow but try as I might I couldn't figure out how or what to do so that other people could access it. Sometimes I get so frustrated with this that I want to quit.
Thing 9 was OK. It's nice to know about the online word processer. I played around with the Declaration of Independence but it seemed almost sacriligeous.

BTW - to those of you who remarked about why I placed my avatar in hell, I hope you noticed that I'm now back on earth and ready to climb the pyramids.

I'm really not stupid but I couldn't figure out how to add slides in Thumbstacks. I could copy a slide but there's got to be a better way. Also, it was not obvious to me how yo'd add pictures. 2 thumbs down on this one.

Email - been there done that. Have used folders, groups, etc.
IM- our library has been working on getting this for almost 2 years. We keeping hearing "we'll have it next week". Looking forward to using this sometime in my life. Didn;t think the video was all that helpfl.
Text Messaging - have no idea how to do this and wouldn't use it if I could. It's bad enough trying to hit the right keys on a normal size keyboard, but a cell phone? No.. I do get text messages though from my nephew and can access and read these.
Webinars - Have particpated in many of SirsiDynx webinars. They were great.
I didn't know that MINITEX had online conferences. Cool. FOund the podcasting one interesting.
I tried to Twitter but their website wasn't working good.

This blows. I tried to upload several pictures from Flickr but all I get is this stupid box. What's the deal? I wanted to upload an image I found search the term Deadwood. I've been watching Deadwood and am pretty absorbed by it. In any case, I think I'll go watch another episode as that is more satisfying than trying to figure this stupid thing out.

I still don't get it. I signed up for Google Reader and subscribed to some news stuff but it's not clear to me how I actually get this wonderful up-to-the minute news. Does it just show up magically or do I have to go to google then google reader each time?
And I tried signing up for other's blogs from 23Things but keep getting the message that they don't exist. I feel like I'm wasting my time trying to understand something that makes no sense to me.
Frustrating.

I listened to the Stephen Abrams video - her reminded me of Max Headroom without the manical laughter.
I think that Library 2.0 just means that we have to keep up with all the changes and integrate them into our own libraries. Not always easy to do when these changes come at what seems a 1000 MPH.
We get too bogged down with the rhetoric and often overthink things. Not to mention trying to make ourselves sound more important than we really are.
The Internet has made my life easy like the microwave oven did. It's convenient for me to shop, communicate and find information. But it's not my life. I get home and turn on my computer and check my email, the news, my stocks and that takes me about 10 minutes tops. I can't think of anything else to use it for. There's other things in life to do.

OK - I'm not good at reading directions so of course I tend to do things backward. In any case, I have created my blog and have learned how to access it and post messages.
Am still trying to add an avatar. I was able to create one with the help of my friend Mary (Growing with 23 things on a stick) but can't figure out how to save it to my blog.
I'll keep trying.
I am very excited about learning all these new things.
